Montgomery County Police have charged a man with reckless endangerment after he shot an AK-47 into the air in a Gaithersburg neighborhood Sunday.

Kenneth Wayne Barney Jr., 38, was also charged with discharging a firearm in an urban area.

Police responded to a report of a man shooting a gun at his home in the 17800 block of Washington Grove Lane at 11:42 a.m., according to county police spokesperson Capt. Paul Starks.

Police confiscated an AK-47, a 12-gauge shotgun and two handguns from the man’s home. One of the handguns was loaded, according to police. Starks said the man was “cooperative.”

“There is no information at this time to indicate that he has possession of them illegally,” Starks said, and an investigation is ongoing.

Barney is being held on $20,000 bond, according to Starks.
