The Coalition to Protect Maryland Burial Sites is appalled at the wanton destruction recently visited upon historic Riggs Cemetery in Brookeville. This is particularly galling since Justin Stine just finished working on this cemetery for his Eagle Scout project.

Recently, the coalition awarded Justin its highest honor, the Periwinkle Award, for his dedicated work to bring Riggs Cemetery out of the shadows. We were touched by his neighbors and friends who also worked hard to help give the cemetery dignity.

It is outrageous that their work has gone for naught. The perpetrators of this malicious crime must be found and brought to justice. Possibly they should do hours of community service on the very sacred ground they destroyed and put it back together.
