One man was burned in a blaze that broke out Thursday inside a Glenn Dale house that fire officials have deemed “a total loss.”

The man in his 50s, who lived in the home, was transported to a burn unit and is now listed in “good” condition, according to the Prince George’s fire/EMS department.

Around 7:30 p.m. in the 7800 block of Northern Avenue, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames throughout the house and initially fought the fire from outside of the house as a safety precaution.

Mark Brady, chief spokesman for the county’s fire/EMS department, said nearly 60 firefighters battled the house fire for nearly an hour before most of it was extinguished.

A total estimate on the cost of the damages is still being tabulated and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
