Montgomery County police have released surveillance video of an armed robbery that investigators hope will lead to an arrest.

The robbery occurred on Oct. 21 at a Chipotle restaurant at 564 N. Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg. Officers arrived at the scene around 10:43 p.m., according to Montgomery County police spokeswoman Janelle Smith.

County police found that the suspect, a male between 6 feet 1 inch and 6 feet 3 inches tall, entered the restaurant through a back door as an employee was throwing out trash. The suspect showed a handgun and forced the restaurant’s employees into an office, Smith said.

The suspect ordered the manager to open a safe and remove cash. It is not clear how much cash was taken out of the safe, according to Smith. The suspect then fled on foot to the rear of the shopping center.

Police describe the suspect as weighing 250 to 270 pounds, with a plaid shirt, dark pants and a white covering over his face, Smith said.

Investigators are asking the public to help identify the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS.
