This story was corrected on Nov. 8, 2012. An explanation follows.
An Accokeek-based nonprofit focused on female veterans’ issues will hold a fundraiser Sunday to raise money for programs that aid homeless female veterans.
Women Veterans Interactive will host its Veterans Day Empowerment and Unification Lunch Cruise from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at National Harbor.
The event will feature a 10 a.m. ceremony with several military and veteran guest speakers, followed by the luncheon on the Spirit of Washington.
Regular tickets cost $65, and a VIP option is available for $125. Fifty dollars of each ticket will go to the veterans charities, according to the event website.
Tickets can be purchased at http://womenvets2012.eventbrite.com.
Ginger Miller, CEO of the organization, said in a statement that her organization focuses specifically on female veterans because they often do not consider themselves primarily as “veterans.”
“Women veterans often don’t identify themselves as veterans and thus do not get the services and support they need and often times become homeless,” she said.
Correction: The original version of this story gave the wrong day for the fundraiser. It is scheduled for Sunday.
