The eighth annual 5K Turkey Trot will be held Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22, at the First United Methodist Church of Laurel to benefit Laurel Advocacy Referral Services, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency and long-term assistance to the homeless and low-income families of Laurel, including a food bank and housing assistance.
There will also be a one-mile fun walk. Registration for the 5K run and the fun walk is $25 until Nov. 10; afterward, the fee is $30.
T-shirts will be given to the first 500 people who register and show up at the race to pick them up, said LARS representative Laura Wellford.
Race packets can be picked up at the church, located at 424 Main St. in Laurel, from 4 to 7 p.m. the evening before the race, and on the morning of the race beginning at 7 a.m.
Warm-up begins at 7:40 a.m. The 5K runners depart at 8 a.m., followed by the one-mile fun walkers at 8:05 a.m. Awards will be given to the top male and female runners in each age group.
“Please bring nonperishable food to the packet pickup and on the race morning for the LARS food pantry. There is an increasing need for food as more low-income and homeless families are seeking our help,” Wellford said.
