Bucking statewide and national results, the majority of Frederick County residents voted in favor of the Republican presidential ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, over incumbent President Barack Obama (D) and Joe Biden.

In Frederick County, 55,495 voters, or 50.6 percent of those who cast a vote, chose Romney, and 51,187 voters — 46.7 percent — voted for Obama, according to complete but unofficial results from the Frederick County Board of Elections. There are 7,000 absentee ballots yet to be counted. That process begins Thursday.

Of the votes cast early, 7,993 were for Obama — 59 percent — and 5,569 were for Romney.

Libertarian party candidates Gary Johnson and Jim Gray received 1,676 votes, or 1.5 percent; Green party candidates Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala received 769 votes and other write-in candidates received 497 votes.
