A woman struck by a car in Gaithersburg on Monday evening has died of injuries suffered in the collision, police said.

Yessenia M. Martinez Rivas, 37, of Gaithersburg, was walking along Muddy Branch Road near Suffield Drive in Gaithersburg when a gray 2006 Toyota Prius traveling north struck her Monday night at about 5:30 p.m., Montgomery County police spokeswoman Angela Cruz said.

Police and Fire/Rescue crews responded to the collision, and Rivas was rushed to Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, police said. She was then flown to Medstar where she later succumbed to injuries at around 11:15 p.m. Monday, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Levine, 66, of North Potomac remained at the scene and provided information to investigators, police said.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
