Takoma Park Police are searching for two masked men who shot and carjacked a man Friday after a failed attempt to rob an armored vehicle.

Police responded about 4:09 p.m. to the 1300 block of University Boulevard where an unknown suspect threatened the driver of an armored vehicle with a gun, a Takoma Park Police release states.

The driver tried to flee but ran into a second suspect, who fired his gun at the driver. The driver also opened fire with his own weapon, the release states. The driver escaped unharmed, according to police.

The two suspects fled the scene toward New Hampshire Avenue in a gray Jeep Cherokee and about 4:19 p.m. they drove to the 6700 block of Conway Avenue, where they shot a man and took his vehicle, the release states.

The current condition of carjacked man, who was flown to a trauma center, was not available as of Saturday evening, according to police.
