The Walkersville Southern Railroad is offering up a fun, spooky and child-friendly train ride this Halloween.
The historic railroad will be running its annual Ghost Train through the Walkersville countryside on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The train departs at 7 and 8:30 p.m. from the station at 34 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Walkersville.
“The train will be decorated with Halloween-theme decorations,” said Brooke Kovalick, general administrator with the railroad. “You can look out the window and there will be [decorations] to look at and a few surprises along the way.”
After departing from the 1900-era station, the train will embark on 45-minute, four-mile train ride to will pass a historic lime kiln, the Walkersville Community Park, picturesque farmland and rolling pastures. Riders will be thrilled as the train travels over the Monocacy River on a restored railroad bridge.
The cost is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors 55 and over and $8 for children ages one through 12. Tickets can be purchased in advance or the night of the ride, which will be held rain or shine.
Free cookies and cider will be available after the ride in the railroad’s museum building.
