Police are still looking for the driver of a pickup truck that hit a Silver Spring woman as she was crossing University Boulevard East at East Wayne Avenue and then left the scene Wednesday night.

The woman suffered head injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, according to Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a Montgomery County Police spokeswoman. Police said she was not crossing the road in a designated crosswalk.

Witnesses told police the black pickup truck traveling west on University Boulevard East at about 8:30 a.m. tried to avoid hitting the woman, but struck her and did not stop. A second driver stopped at the scene to call police and help the woman.

Four other cars were involved in a rear-end collision at the scene of the hit-and-run, Innocenti said. One driver had to be transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from that secondary accident, she said.
