Prince George’s police have arrested the father of a missing boy after he allegedly displayed a handgun when taking the boy from his mother at a Landover gas station.

Around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Exxon in the 7500 block of Landover Road, a mother reported that her 4-year-old son’s father, Kyle Britton, 26, of the 4300 block of Sangamore Road in Bethesda, came to her wielding a handgun while she was pumping gas.

She reported that he then jumped into her car and drove away with the boy still inside.

County police conducted a search for the boy and found the vehicle used in the abduction, a black Honda Accord, abandoned on Hawthorne Street in Landover. The child was found unharmed a short time later at a school in Washington, D.C., county police said.

Several hours later, county police arrested Britton without incident near the 8000 block of Landover Road.

The mother and son have since been reunited, police said.

Britton is charged with first- and second-degree assault, armed carjacking and use of a firearm to commit a crime, according to online Prince George’s county district court records.

He was not charged with kidnapping since he is the father of the boy and both parents share custody, said Cpl. Maria McKinney, a county police spokeswoman.

A defense attorney for Britton was not listed with the courts Thursday, according to online county court records.
