In conjunction with the Taste of the Boulevard event at the Boulevard at the Capital Centre in Largo on Saturday, Prince George’s County’s police and fire/EMS departments challenged each other to a barbecue grilling competition in their first “Public Safety Cook Off” event.

The county’s police department was given first place after a panel of four judges tasted each dish served by both departments. Those attending the event were also able to taste barbecue from both departments by donating $2.

Proceeds went to Heroes Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that aids families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who have died in the line of duty, and the Prince George’s County Police Explorers, an education and training program that introduces police work to area youth.
