A passenger was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Airpark Road about a half mile north of Muncaster Road in Derwood Sunday morning, according to Montgomery County police.

The driver of a silver 2000 Mazda 626 was heading north on Airpark Road and, for reasons still under investigation, crossed into the southbound lanes while attempting to make a curve. The Mazda struck a white 2010 Lexus RX350 and a dark gray 2012 Acura TL, confirmed Angela Cruz, a county police spokeswoman.

The front seat passenger of the Mazda, identified as 53-year-old Larry Uwem Etuk Navajo of the 10700 block of Venetia Mill Circle in Silver Spring, died at the scene of the collision, police said. Both the driver of the Mazda, 48-year-old Chimezie Darlington Onwuachu, and the driver of the Acura, 53-year-old Robert Dike, were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia, where they remain hospitalized with serious injuries Wednesday, police said.

The driver of the Lexus, 59-year-old Claudia Horn, of the 8600 block of Augusta Farm Lane in Laytonsville, was not injured, police said.

Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
