The Banner School in Frederick has joined the Pink Ribbon Path Project, which promotes breast cancer awareness and benefits the Frederick Memorial Hospital Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund and the Frederick Arts Council.
According to a release from the school, the Banner community raised $6,450 for the project, which aims to create a path of large pink ribbons decorated by artists in downtown Frederick this fall.
The Banner School families and staff raised money for the project at a Vera Bradley bingo event Aug. 11. The school community presented a check to representatives from Frederick Memorial Hospital, The Hurwitz family and the Frederick Arts Council at an all-school assembly on Sept. 19.
The school is also participating in the decorating of the ribbons for the project. The Banner School partnered with local artist Heather Pellet, who created design for one of the ribbons in the project by incorporating ideas and symbols generated by students at The Banner School.
The Banner School ribbon and the others in the project will be displayed throughout the month of October along a section of North Market and West Patrick streets in downtown Frederick.
