The students from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt have been named semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to the Prince George’s County Public Schools.
The students — Mara Moran, Niko Schultz and Sonia Zhang — are part of a national competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarship awards. Finalists for the awards, which are worth more than $32 million, will be announced next spring.
Moran, Schultz and Zhang competed with 1.5 million other juniors from 22,000 high schools across the country to become semifinalists. They were picked based on their strong performance on the 2011 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
