The grand opening of the new Costco location at the Westfield Wheaton shopping mall has been delayed because of a construction issue, according to a Costco official.
“We have a construction issue that we need to resolve,” said Jeffrey Z. Ishida, vice president of real estate development for Costco Wholesale’s eastern division. Ishida did not describe the construction issue.
Ishida also said the delay, decided within the last week, had “nothing to do with the gas station.”
The station would be the largest in the county and has elicited opposition led by the Kensington Heights Civic Association.
The store had been scheduled to open Oct. 18, and the new grand opening date has not been released.
