A couple of good apples from Fort Washington have earned some green for college.
The Apple Grove Squires Woods Community Association awarded two natives $500 for college.
Matthew Williams and Alexus Smith were awarded the scholarship in July towards the school of their choice after submitting an application packet that included an essay on community service and a letter of recommendation.
The money, which was raised by the community association from member dues and fundraising efforts, will allow the students to defray the cost of books and other school expenses, said Pauline Washington-Digg, president of the association.
“We have people who are struggling because of the economy,” she said. “We want to bless one another and make this a model community.”
