Two area women are taking the reins of Prince George’s Community College.

Lynn Skerpon of Mitchellville and Oretha Bridgwaters-Simms of Upper Marlboro are the new chair and vice chair respectively of the community college’s board of trustees.

The board is responsible for general oversight of the university including its finances, said Joe Clark, a spokesman for the college.

The pair was elected by the nine-member board to a one-year term as leaders of the body in July. Both were appointed to serve on the board in 2010 by Gov. Martin O’Malley.
