The Universities at Shady Grove will host its 2012 USG Community Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the USG campus, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville.
The day will include food, entertainment and activities for the whole family and provide attendees the opportunity to explore the campus and learn more about the degree programs offered at USG by nine state universities.
Among this year’s highlights will be appearances by HOT 99.5 radio personality Sarah Fraser, filmmaker/author Mike Tidwell, and the Baltimore Ravens cheerleaders. Brazilian chef Paulo Machado, will provide live cooking demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
“We are so proud of the important role that USG plays in our community and we’re excited to host what we know will be a very special day on our campus,” Dr. Stewart Edelstein, executive director of USG and associate vice chancellor, University System of Maryland, said in a statement. “We have a great day planned for people of all ages and we look forward to welcoming the community to our campus, especially those who may not have yet been exposed to all that we have to offer.”
Among the special events planned for the day is a Community Shred, in which attendees can shred old bills and documents for free.
USG Community Day also will feature a live, outdoor concert, with performances by the Thomas S. Wootton High School a cappella group, Supertonics; jazz by the Pryor Project and a dance performance by the Bolivian Dance Team.
