About 20,000 people attended the 31st annual Celebrate Gaithersburg festival on Sunday, where visitors listened to live bands, climbed rock walls and sampled food truck fare in Olde Towne.

New Jersey rock band “The Smithereens” headlined the event with a performance at city hall. In the parking lot, demonstrators gave visitors a taste of swing dancing, merengue and salsa. Kids came out to jump on moon bounces and ride ponies in a miniature petting zoo.

Michele Potter, director of Parks, Recreation and Culture in Gaithersburg, said attendance was about the same as last year’s event.
