A 50-year-old man was stuck and killed as he attempted to cross Annapolis Road in Lanham Saturday night.

Cpl. Larry Johnson of the Prince George’s County Police Department said that alcohol appears to be a factor on the part of the pedestrian.

Officers responded to the scene, in the 9400 block of Annapolis Road, at about 9 p.m.

Johnson said the investigation revealed that a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 20-year-old male, was traveling westbound when he encountered the pedestrian attempting to cross the roadway, not within a crosswalk.

“The driver fatally struck the pedestrian,” he said. “He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

Johnson said the driver, who showed no signs of impairment, remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Police will release the victim’s identify after his next of kin is notified.
