The Writer’s Center will host a Poetry Slam Final Competition at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The event will feature NYC performance poet Taylor Mali, a four-time National Poetry Slam champion and author of two collections of poetry and a recent book of essays, "What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World." At this one-of-a-kind event, the finalists of TWC’s poetry slam competition will get to show their stuff. A performance by Mali follows. Kenneth Carroll, a workshop leader at The Writer’s Center, will emcee the event. Mali is one of the original poets to appear on the HBO series “Def Poetry Jam.” Registration begins at 5 p.m. Admission is $10, $5 for TWC members. The Writer’s Center is located at 4508 Walsh St., Bethesda. Visit www.writer.org.
