A 2-year-old boy died Monday after being found in a pool in the backyard of his Olney home.
Montgomery County police and Fire/Rescue units responded to a residence in the 17200 block of Sandy Knoll Drive at 11:44 a.m. for the report of a drowning, said Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a county police spokeswoman. Rescuers found a neighbor performing CPR on the 34-month-old child when they arrived at the home.
Chief George Brown of the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department was not on the scene, but said that when SSVFD paramedics arrived, they immediately began performing CPR on the boy, and continued to do so as they transported him to MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.
“They did everything they could to save the child’s life,” said Innocenti. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene and hospital, the boy did not survive.
Innocenti said the case is under investigation by the Major Crimes Division. Police have determined that the boy was at his own residence, and was in the care of a caregiver at the time of the incident.
