Motorcyclist dies after collision on Great Seneca Monday -- Gazette.Net

A Germantown man has died after a collision with a car threw him off his motorcycle on Great Seneca Highway Monday afternoon.

The collision took place at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Longdraft Road in Gaithersburg shortly before 2 p.m., said Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman.

Michael George Balcom, of the 13200 block of Wonderland Way in Germantown, was traveling north towards the intersection when the driver of a BMW, traveling in the opposite direction, attempted to make a left turn in front of Balcoms motorcycle. Balcom, 24, was ejected from the motorcycle after colliding with the BMWs passenger door.

The cars driver, 67-year-old Toney William Moses of the 16900 block of Horn Point Drive in Gaithersburg, stayed on the scene, Innocenti said. An off-duty officer was the first to respond.

Balcom was rushed to Shady Grove Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. Montgomery County police are still investigating the cause of the accident, Innocenti said. No charges have been filed so far.

A portion of Great Seneca Highway was closed for the duration of the on-scene investigation Monday afternoon, the Gazette previously reported.
