Pepco and Baltimore Gas & Electric reported power outages in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, Washington, D.C., and other areas resulting from Saturday’s storm that swept through the area with winds in excess of 60 miles per hour.
Pepco initially reported 65,000 outages, but by Sunday morning had restored power to 90 percent of those customers, according to Myra Oppel, spokeswoman for Pepco. Oppel said originally Pepco hoped to have 90 percent restored by Monday morning, so they are ahead of schedule. Most customers will have the power back on by tonight, she said.
As of Sunday at noon, Pepco reported 604 outages in southern Montgomery County, and 1,809 in scattered portions of Prince George’s County, including Oxon Hill, Greenbelt and Forest Hill. In D.C., 750 customers are without power.
BGE, which also serves portions of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties, reported 14,900 outages Saturday at 9 p.m, but had restored power to all but 300 customers by Sunday afternoon, and expects to return power to remaining customers by this afternoon, according to Rob Gould, spokesman for BGE.
