A Waldorf man has been charged with sexually soliciting a teenage boy via text messages while posing as a female classmate.

Timothy Doral Hawkins, 41, has been charged with sexual solicitation of a minor and misuse of a telephone. He was arrested Thursday and released on his own recognizance.

The boy, 15, told police that he first met Hawkins when he moved to his Holly Lane home about two years ago, according to charging papers.

The boy frequently saw Hawkins walking his dog nearby along Vernon Road. One time, Hawkins told the boy where he lived and pointed his house out.

Hawkins would stop and talk to the boy when they crossed paths, once asking the teen for his cellphone number “in case he had any work for [the boy] to do,” court papers state.

The boy gave Hawkins his cellphone number but did not receive any text messages from him, court records state.

A week ago, Hawkins told the boy that he had a friend who could make him a skateboard for cheap and again asked for the teen’s number.

The boy immediately began receiving sexually explicit text messages from an unknown phone number requesting lewd photos and describing sex acts the sender wanted to engage in with the boy, the papers state. The person sending the messages claimed to be a female classmate.

The boy received more messages requesting sex on Tuesday. He got a call from the same phone number later that day, in which the caller said, “I think you’re hot” and “You know who this is,” the records state.

The boy recognized Hawkins’ voice and told his parents, who called the police.

A warrant was issued for Hawkins’ arrest Wednesday.

Anyone with additional information should call sheriff’s detective K. Selkirk at 301-609-6595.
