The Takoma Park Police Department is holding an educational presentation on how a TASER works, its advantages in law enforcement and the departmentís policies on the use of the TASER.
The TASER is an electronically controlled weapon, which has had a significant impact on American law enforcement. They effectively help officers to resolve serious situations and reduce the need for more dangerous weapons and lower officer and subject injury rates, according to the 2011 Electronic Control Weapon Guidelines.
The department hopes the presentation will provide an understanding of the weapon and clear up misconceptions about its use. Those who attend also may voluntarily request to have a TASER deployed on them.
The presentation will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the auditorium of the Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Ave. The class is free, but limited to the first 25 people. Contact Carla Magnaye at firstname.lastname@example.org or 301-891-7121 with questions or to register.
