Just 20 hours after a man was shot Sunday in the 1000 block of Heather Ridge Road in Frederick, police arrested a man in Bristol, Tenn., they suspect of having committed the crime.

Rafael Lopez Cardoza, 22, of Frederick was found by Bristol police and taken into custody Monday until detectives from the Frederick Police Department arrived, police said.

He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of concealed dangerous weapon, handgun on person, possession of dangerous weapon with intent to injure and use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, according to police.

It is believed Cardoza boarded a bus after the shooting that had a stop in Bristol.

Cardoza was already wanted by the Frederick police for an unrelated shooting investigation that occurred earlier this month in Frederickís Taskers Chance neighborhood.

At 12:30 a.m. Sunday police were called to a shooting in the hallway of the Building D of the Country Hills Apartment in Frederick. The victim, a 35-year old black man, had been shot multiple times. He was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he remains in serious condition, police said.

Cpl. Aaron Lapp of the Frederick city police said the manís name is not being released at this time.

After his arrest, Cardoza was taken to the Sullivan County Tennessee Detention Center, where he is awaiting extradition to Frederick.
