Bowie area students have another way to enrich their education thanks to a program run by a local fraternal organization.

The Gamma Pi chapter of the Omega Psi Phi frateral order has operated Project Enrich, a charity aimed at mentoring youth through high school so they can attend college for about 20 years.

The program, which runs during the school year, takes enrolled high school students to Bowie State University where they learn lessons in such skills as note taking and how to prepare for exams. The opening session is Saturday at BSU, said James Alexander, a spokesman for the organization.

The free program began accepting applications for admittance earlier this month and will continue to accept applications for the next two months, Alexander said.

Those interested in applying should go to the program’s website at projectenrich.org.
