Rockville stem-cell company Neuralstem reported that its second-quarter net loss narrowed to $2.4 million from $3.6 million in the prior-year quarter. Revenues rose to $78,125 from none.

Bethesda biotech Spherix reported that its second-quarter net loss narrowed to $747,575 from $1 million in the prior-year quarter. Revenues rose to $206,103 from $186,050.

Rockville biotech EntreMed reported that its second-quarter net loss widened to $10.5 million from $1.7 million in the prior-year quarter. Revenues fell to none from $8,852.

Conmed Healthcare Management of Hanover, which provides health care services to municipal and county detention centers, reported a second-quarter profit of $359,677, versus a net loss of $139,482 in the prior-year quarter. Revenues rose to $19.7 million from $16.7 million.

Universal Security Instruments of Owings Mills reported a net loss of $362,588 for the quarter ended June 30, versus a profit of $581 in the prior-year quarter. Sales fell to $3.1 million from $3.2 million.

GSE Systems of Sykesville, which provides simulation and training services to the energy industry, reported a second-quarter profit of $158,000, versus a net loss of $244,000 in the prior-year quarter. Revenues rose to $13.2 million from $11.3 million.

Madison Bancorp of Baltimore, parent of Madison Square Federal Savings Bank, reported a second-quarter profit of $70,000, versus a net loss of $39,000 in the prior-year quarter. During the quarter, assets grew to $157.2 million from $155.2 million.

Glen Burnie Bancorp, parent of the Bank of Glen Burnie, reported that its second-quarter profit fell to $656,000 from $758,000 in the prior-year quarter. Assets at June 30 totaled $378.9 million, up from $357.8 a year earlier.
