The Maryland State Highway Administration will temporarily close northbound and southbound lanes of Rockville Pike in Bethesda for resurfacing, officials said.

The resurfacing will take place weeknights on a quarter-mile section of Rockville Pike between South Drive and Jones Bridge Road, said Christopher Bishop, a community liaison for SHA.

The work was scheduled to begin Monday and should be complete by the end of August, he said. Single lane closures will begin weeknights at 7 p.m. with double lane closures at 10 p.m.

All lanes will be open no later than 5 a.m., according to a press release from SHA.

Officials encourage motorists to plan for extra commute time to avoid construction delays.

Approximately 49,000 vehicles use the heavily traveled MD 355 corridor each day.

Arrow boards, construction barrels and flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.
