From greedy greens to gambling goons, the Laurel Mill Playhouse will make its own luck this weekend when its Summer Youth Production of “Guys and Dolls” rolls the dice. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 19. Special Thursday performances will be held at 8 p.m. Aug. 9 and 16. Finally, The Dog Days of Summer return to Frederick from 5-9 p.m. during Frederick’s First Saturday event. For August, downtown turns festivities over to man’s best friend, featuring a dog parade and costume contest, dog friendly stores and dining, animal art and more. Registration begins at 5 p.m., with the evening culminating in a “Yappy Hour” after-party. First Saturday staples, such as live entertainment, guest artists and extended shopping hours, also abound. A portion of Dog Days proceeds benefit the event's co-organizer, the Frederick County Humane Society. For more information, visit www.downtownfrederick.org.
