Barnes headed to Norfolk State

After helping the Monroe College (N.Y.) women's basketball team to its second consecutive National Junior College Athletic Association Division II national title, Frederick High School graduate Kashay Barnes plans to contnue her career next season at Norfolk State University.

Barnes, a 5-foot-7 guard, averaged 10.3 points, 3.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game last season. She was named the MVP of the NJCAA Division II national tournament, where she averaged 18.3 points per game in four games, including a 26-point, 8-assist perfromance in the championship game.

She will be joined at Norfolk State by Monroe teammate Aviah Parham, a Baltimore Poly graduate. Norfolk State was 12-17 last year, including a 6-10 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
