The Fairwood Education Task Force is hosting a forum on education on Aug. 4 in Bowie.
The free event, which will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Sycamore Club at 12600 Fairwood Parkway will focus on High School Choice. Lateefah Durant, the academic officer of Prince George’s County public schools, will be a guest speaker.
Durant’s speech will focus on preparing children for a variety of fields, said Sonya Brathwaite, chairwoman of the Fairwood Education Task Force in an email.
“Durant will talk about the new opportunities available to students to study a particular career field in depth, like hospitality and tourism, media arts and communication, public policy and leadership, and others,” she said. “These new career themed programs will be offered to all high school students to ensure that 100 percent of graduates are college and workforce ready.”
Those interested in attending are asked to email education@Fairwood community.org to RSVP. Walk-ins are welcome, however the meeting room accommodates around 60 people, Brathwaite said.
