Asbury Methodist Village’s Evaristo Gustines was named one of 26 North American chefs who will help prepare meals at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Gustines, known as Chef Gus to the residents of Asbury, is one of five executive chefs at the senior communities, whose central offices are located in Germantown. He said although he has yet to be told who he’s cooking for, he’s excited to take the trip to England at the end of the month.
“I’m not sure what I’ll be doing, but I do know where I’ll be going,” he said.
Gustines will be staying at the University of Bedfordshire in Luton, United Kingdom. He is scheduled to arrive July 23, at which point he expects to be told if he’ll be serving athletes, administrators, or the news outlets covering the games.
Gustines said he applied to be an Olympic chef at the urging of his employers and was surprised to be picked among only 26 who were chosen from all of North America.
“People thought it would be a good opportunity,” he said.
Gustines is set to return August 12.
