William Kahl of Silver Spring and David Ditch of Laurel won an international beer lifting contest hosted by Hobby King located in Hong Kong, China. Kahl was the builder of the propeller-driven, remote controlled, helicopter-like aircraft.
The purpose of the contest was to demonstrate the amount of weight that is possible to lift using modern lightweight lithium polymer batteries and electronic gyro chips used in video game systems.
The noni-copter motored rotary aircraft picked up and held about seven gallons of water (substituted for beer) for the contest-required flight time of five seconds and won the 700mm division of the contest, the maximum distance allowed between rotors. Kahl and Ditch both are avid RC helicopter and airplane enthusiasts and members of Freestate Aeromodelers club.
