A man who died after being run over by a car during an attempted armed robbery in Fairmount Heights has been identified

Bradford Anson McCoy, 30, of the 2300 block of Vermont Avenue in Landover was driving in Fairmount Heights around 12:19 a.m. when he noticed an acquaintance and three other men and parked his vehicle nearby to speak with them in the 1200 block of Oates Street, Prince George’s County police said.

While the group was speaking, three unknown, armed and masked suspects approached them and announced a robbery, ordering each of them to the ground, county police said. Police said one suspect then approached a white car nearby with a woman inside and she was ordered to hand over her keys but panicked and attempted to drive away, running over McCoy, who was pronounced dead at the scene, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a county police spokesman.

According to county police, McCoy was driving a Comcast contract vehicle during the time of the incident. The suspects used it to flee the scene but the vehicle was later recovered by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Following the incident, the woman remained on scene and cooperated with the county police investigation. The other victims were also questioned, said Copeland, who noted that the investigation is ongoing as police are still seeking the responsible suspects.

The Prince George’s department is asking anyone with information of the incident or suspects to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 301-772-4230 or Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS.
