The city of Gaithersburg will be closing some of its streets for the annual Independence Day fireworks Friday evening.

Chesnut Street and Perry Parkway will be closed from 6 to 11 p.m. on July 13.

Drivers also are warned to avoid Md. 355 between Chestnut Street and Montgomery Village Avenue due to heavy pedestrian traffic.

Drivers are urged to be aware of pedestrians and stopped vehicles in the roadway in the Montgomery County Fairgrounds area.

Gaithersburg’s fireworks were rescheduled after the June 29 storm that left many homes and businesses without power. Pepco used the fairgrounds as a base for power restoration operations in Montgomery County.

The gates for the event will open at 5 p.m. and fireworks will start at 9:25 p.m.
