The Bowie Baysox’s Prince George’s County Stadium was set to be the site of a different kind of sport over the weekend.

The first Bowie Baysox Charity 5-kilometer race and Kids Fun Run was scheduled for its inaugral run on July 1.

Late last week, roughly 120 people including about 15 children had registered for the race. A portion of the proceeds from the event, roughly 20 percent, will go towards aiding the Bowie Health Center Foundation a charity arm of Dimension Health Care which operates medical centers across the county as well as the Bowie Police Explorers, which allows youths to get hands-on experience with the work of their local police force, and Louie’s Holiday Hope Project that provides gifts and food to area families during the year-end holiday season.

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III was scheduled to join runners in the 5-K race which would finish at the stadium’s home plate, said John Brathwaite, director of sponsorship and events for the DC Running club which organized the event.
