Maryland State Police are investigating a Thursday evening single-vehicle accident after a man was killed when his motorcycle swerved off the road and hit a guardrail in Huntingtown.

At 10:33 p.m. Thursday, MSP Prince Frederick barrack troopers responded to a reported motorcycle accident at Huntingtown Road and Hinton Drive, according to an MSP press release.

Troopers said a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by George Wesley Goff III, 49, of Huntingtown was traveling east on Huntingtown Road when it traveled off the right side of the road, came back onto the road and then swerved out of control and hit a guardrail. Members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

Huntingtown Volunteer Rescue Squad members took Goff to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Barrack commander Lt. Randy Stephens said Goff was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Stephens said police are looking at whether or not alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident.

Any information regarding the accident should be directed to Tfc. West at the Prince Frederick barrack at 410-535-1234.
