More than 80 Zumba dancers attended a Zumbathon at the Urbana Fire Hall, raising about $900 June 15.

The two-hour dance session led by Zumba instructor Nathan Blake was organized by Amanda Strand, owner of ZUMBAFrederick studio to help raise funds for the charity, Kids Connection Haiti.

Linda K. Bidlack of Urbana suggested the event and donating to the organization that helps at-risk Haitian youth transition from orphanages to stable housing and continue their schooling or start small businesses.

Strand met Blake at the East Coast Alliance World Fitness Expo held in New York in May where they both were presenters. She asked Blake to come to Frederick to lead the charity Zumbathon, and after completing an event in Prague, Czech Republic, Blake flew to Washington, D.C., for the Frederick event.

Donations are still being accepted at Kidsconnectionhaiti.com.
