Frederick police are searching for a man who bolted from a downtown jewelry store with an $18,000 Rolex watch Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the man entered Colonial Jewelers at the corner of Patrick and Market streets and asked to see a gold Rolex President watch. He then grabbed the watch and ran east on East Patrick Street while being chased by several store customers.

Owners of the store were unavailable for comment Thursday.

Officers searched the area around the parking deck, C. Burr Artz Public Library and Carroll Creek Linear Park as well as other parts of the city, but couldn’t find the suspect who was wearing a baseball cap with a red brim, white T-shirt with “Diesel” written on the front and tattoos on both upper arms.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Frederick Police Department at 301-600-2100 or anonymously at 301-600-8477.
