A recent Montgomery Blair High School graduate won recognition in an international science competition last month.

Jessica Lu of Rockville won second place in Biochemistry for her research project, “Determination of Binding Energy Hotspots on a Broadly Neutralizing Antibody against HIV-1,” in May at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Lu won a $1,500 prize for her work, which went up against more than 1,500 high school students representing 70 countries in the world’s largest pre-college science competition.

Lu, a student in Blair’s magnet program, will attend the University of Pennsylvania’s Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology in the fall.
