Sherrie Weinhold/submitted Cadets and senior members of Mount Airy Composite Squadron honored our Nation's veterans on May 24 by placing American flags on the graves of those who have served in the military and have a final resting place at Taylorsville United Methodist Church. Prior to placement of the American flags, the Cadets received instructions for the proper military etiquette for flag placement by Cadet Captain Kevin Lohoefer, center shown saluting. Other Cadets pictured from left to right are C/Amn Adam Huie, C/2nd Lt Aaron Huie, C/Amn Jason Lohoefer and C/Amn Ethan Cortes. The Mount Airy Squadron Cadets have performed this service for the past 13 years. This year the Cadets placed approximately 25 flags.

Members of the Mount Airy Composite Squadron supported their community during two town events last month.

Cadets and senior members of the squadron honored the nation’s veterans on Memorial Day by placing American flags on the graves of those who served in the military buried at Taylorsville United Methodist Church. The group placed about 25 flags.

The Mount Airy Squadron Cadets have performed this service for 13 years.

In addition, the Mount Airy Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary supported the annual May Festival May 19 and 20. The Mount Airy Lions club sponsors this two-day festival each year on Main Street in historic downtown Mount Airy.

Civil Air Patrol cadets and adult members closed the roads to all traffic to allow over 90 vendors to set up their booths. More than 8,000 people attended the festival.
