Rising sophomore football player Blake Dove will likely have a new uniform this fall.

The former Seneca Valley High School standout middle linebacker apparently will enroll at Winston Churchill, according to Seneca Valley coach Fred Kim.

Dove did not immediately return a phone call from The Gazette on Wednesday evening, but Kim said Dove has moved to Potomac and has family members that have graduated from Churchill.

Bulldogs coach Joe Allen, however, said Dove’s status is up in the air.

“At this time, he hasn’t officially transferred to Churchill,” Allen said when reached by phone Wednesday.

As a rare freshman varsity starter last fall at Seneca Valley, Dove led the team in tackles (86) and helped the program to a playoff berth and 9-2 record. He was at the heart of a unit that surrendered more than nine points on just three occasions.

“Not only was his physical strength surprising [at such a young age], but mentally, to be able to pick up all the plays and the sets, it’s a very complex position,” Kim told The Gazette during an interview last fall. “Mentally, [Dove] has got great football moxie.”

Dove was the first freshman to earn first-team All-Gazette honors in more than a decade.
