Takoma Park and Prince George’s County police are still searching for a man they said stabbed and robbed another man in the New Hampshire Avenue corridor Tuesday afternoon.

The confrontation took place at 4:39 p.m. outside the Advance Auto Parts store at 6300 New Hampshire Avenue when the robber approached the victim, a man, and tried to take his backpack, said Takoma Park police spokesman Andrew Gucciardo.

“A struggle ensued and the male suspect produced a knife, assaulted the male victim with the knife and removed the victim’s book bag,” Gucciardo said. “The suspect then fled into [Prince George’s] County.”

A Maryland State Police helicopter briefly assisted in canvassing the area along with patrol officers and K-9 units from both Takoma Park and Prince George’s County police, but the robber remained on the loose as of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect was last seen fleeing the crime on foot.

The victim was alert and talking with police and rescue officials when he was taken to the MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., for treatment, Gucciardo said. Detectives accompanied the victim to the hospital and obtained a description of the suspect, describing him as a black man in his 30s standing about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and last seen wearing blue jeans and black shoes. The robber was further described as having a thin, muscular build, dark complexion with a mustache and stubble on his face, Gucciardo said.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the possible whereabouts of the robber is asked to call the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100. Callers who wish to remain anonymous may text tips to the department to 847411 with the subject “TPPDTIP” at the beginning of the message.
