Richard Morris Abell Sr., 85, Charlotte Hall

Richard Morris “Bud” Abell Sr. of Charlotte Hall died June 8, 2012, at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 16, 1927, in Beachville, he was the son of the late Frank Tompkins Abell and the late Sarah Edith Morris Abell.

Mr. Abell was a resident of Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. He was a self-employed locksmith. He was a devoted Baptist who attended First Baptist Church of Waldorf. He enjoyed fishing, was a fan of the Washington Redskins and loved his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served for two years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mae Abell.

He is survived by his sons, Darryl F. Abell of Waldorf, and Richard Morris Jr. and his wife, Nancy Abell of Charlotte Hall; sister, Lydia W. Unkle of St. Inigoes; grandsons, Michael, Joseph and Jason Abell; granddaughter, Dawn Garcia; and great-granddaughter, Leah Garcia.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. June 13 at Huntt Funeral Home, Waldorf, where a service will be held at 9:30 a.m. June 14. The Rev. Dr. Wayne R. Kempson will officiate. Burial will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham.
