The combined skills of Linganore shortstop Tyler Beckwith, Middletown outfielder Connor Myers and Middletown catcher Nick Rabat were not enough to guide the North squad to a victory at Sunday's Brooks Robinson High School All-Star game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards but the trio walked away with huge smiles and some shock and awe pasted on their faces.

“It was amazing,” said Beckwith, whose North all-stars dropped a 4-3 decision to the South squad, which scored three runs in the fourth to secure the victory. “You watch the Orioles on TV every night and every day and you seen what it's like to playing in the bigs and I'm actually out here playing on the field. It's amazing.

“I just wanted to have fun. I just wanted to enjoy the day and take in the experience,” added Beckwith, who collected a hit in two at-bats.

Rabat went hitless in two at-bats but he reached on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning and later scored on a single by Century's Michael Austin to help trim the South's lead to 4-2. He also logged a handful of innings behind the plate.

“It was an amazing experience,” Rabat said. “There's nothing like playing in an MLB park. I'll probably never forget this. My goal was to have a hit and make some plays in the field but the third baseman made a really good play on one of my hits but I scored so I'm proud of that.”

Myers also came up short in his three at-bats Sunday, which started with an extra-inning victory by the Baltimore Orioles over the Philadelphia Phillies, but he had the opportunity roam the spacious outfield from all three different positions.

“I'm so in all awe,” he said. “This field is amazing to play on. I'm still in awe right now. It's the biggest field I've ever played on. I was surprised I played right and left because I've never played there before. I didn't so good at the plate but you have those days in baseball. Baseball is a game of failure. This was awesome.”

The players in both dugouts were also treated to an appearance by Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones.
