Charles County Public Schools will hold its first Title I Parent Engagement Conference from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 2 in the BI Building of the College of Southern Maryland’s La Plata campus.

The conference, titled “Cultivating Strong Families and Strong Schools Through Parent Engagement,” focuses on improving the well-being and academic achievement of children through increased family involvement.

The conference will feature a special emphasis on fatherhood involvement and break-out sessions will include topics such as Dad’s attitudes on fathering, the father factor in children’s health, Mom as a gateway and Pop’s culture.

The conference is free and open to the public.

Registration is required and can be completed on the Charles County Public Schools website at http://database.ccboe.com/events/Title1. Select the New Record link to complete the registration process.

A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided along with materials from the National Fatherhood Initiative. Transportation services will be available for parents in Title I school areas and free childcare will be provided during the event.

The event also serves as a forum for fathers and male role models to increase the understanding of their role in the lives of their children. The keynote speaker is Ron Clark of the National Fatherhood Initiative. The conference is a joint partnership between Charles County Public Schools and the National Fatherhood Initiative.
